Totally Safe Moon Project Walkthrough: How to Reach the Moon and Win
Updated ยท 5 min read
To beat Totally Safe Moon Project, you build a climbable tower from the neighbourhood to the Moon, spend the points from each height goal on a stronger Gravity Gun and new tools, place Oxygen Totems once you reach space, and finally carry the laser from your garage to the white flag on the Moon. Delivering that weapon triggers the ending, where the laser blows the incoming asteroid apart.
The order of events below is the order seen in recorded runs; exact heights vary with your tower. The walkthrough is based on complete runs recorded on YouTube (Geeky Pastimes, RoboDessert, RealOutlawNico and Ultimate TnT) and on the official Steam description and achievement list. Your tower will look different every time, so treat this as a route plan rather than a fixed path. New players should read the beginner guide first.
Stage 1: Leave the garage (0โ20 m)
Everyone starts in the garage. Check the Upgrades computer next to the exit; you have no points yet, but you will be back. Walk out into the neighbourhood and find something tall and flat to start from. Several recorded groups used the gas station canopy, with loose wooden fence sections as ramps up to it.
Your gun is weak at this stage, so you are building from fences, boxes, small props and cars. Use the mouse wheel to push a panel into place, rotate it so its broad face becomes a ramp or landing, then attach it. The first goal is 10 m, and its reward (100 points in the recorded runs) is enough for the first Gravity Gun upgrade. Go back and buy it.
Achievements you will likely get here: Building Started (pick up 10 objects), 10m, 20m, Living Blocks (pick up an NPC).
Stage 2: Cars, buses and drones
With each Gravity Gun level you can lift heavier props. Recorded groups moved from fences to cars, then trucks, buses and houses. A bus roof is a long, safe walkway; a house gives height plus a broad roof. Rotate big buildings so a flat face connects to your existing route.
Supply drones appear as you hit new heights. Shooting them down, or breaking the crates they carry, unlocks new tools. In the recorded runs players picked up the umbrella (slows your fall), a fireworks gun, a trampoline, a goo gun, a magnet and joke items like a rubber chicken. The umbrella is the most important: equip it before any risky jump.
The later height goals, per the Steam achievement list, are 40, 65, 95, 120, 175, 250, 300, 350 and 425 m. Keep returning to the Upgrades computer; the official Steam screenshot of the menu shows Gravity Gun level 2 โ level 3 for 200 P.

Stage 3: UFOs and ziplines
Around the middle of the climb, UFOs arrive. They abduct players and damage the tower. You can shoot them down (players used the fireworks gun and thrown houses and buses), which earns I Want to Believe (first UFO) and Alien Invasion (10 UFOs). Destroyed UFOs can also leave parts you can use as building material.
This is also when recorded groups started buying ziplines at the Upgrades computer. A zipline links two points so you can ride up and down the tower quickly; one group even carried a house along one. Ziplines save a lot of time when you need to go back down to buy upgrades.
The heaviest object in the game is a windmill (wind turbine). Lifting one gives the I'm Your Biggest Fan achievement, and Geeky Pastimes' group used several turbines stacked vertically to bridge the last stretch to the Moon.
Stage 4: Asteroid rain
Higher up the sky turns orange and asteroid rain begins. Burning rocks smash through the upper tower and knock players off. Survive your first shower for A Rainy Day. There is nothing to do but hold on to a wide platform, use the umbrella if you are knocked off, and repair the gaps afterwards. Players in the Steam forums have complained that a single shower can take out a big chunk of a tower, so build with some redundancy.
Recorded groups also unlocked the grappling hook around here. It lets you pull yourself up between platforms, and the Geeky Pastimes group used it to climb almost the whole final section.
Stage 5: Space and oxygen
Near space an oxygen bar appears and the game announces "Oxygen Totems unlocked". If the bar empties you pass out and fall. Go back to the Upgrades computer and buy several Oxygen Totems (they are cheap disposable items). Place them on wide platforms along the last part of the route and stand next to one to refill. Ultimate TnT's group stocked up 15 of them so they would not have to go back down.
Put at least one totem near the Moon itself. Several recorded players reached the Moon and then ran out of air while waiting for the rest of the team.
Stage 6: Bring the laser to the Moon
When someone reaches the Moon they find a white flag with the message "Now, bring the weapon here." Go back to the garage and pick up the laser device (the one with the yellow "Bring to the Moon" sign). If it is too heavy, upgrade the Gravity Gun further first.
Carry it up the tower in stages. Put it down on broad landings, fix any obstacles, and keep oxygen nearby. In co-op, have one player carry the weapon while the others clear the route, pass it up with the gun, or use the magnet to help. Once the laser is placed at the flag, the closing sequence plays and the asteroid explodes.

After the ending
Finishing unlocks National Heroes. If fall damage was on, you also get Not Afraid. A harder Chaos Mode is available for another run, and finishing it gives "Difficulty? I'd like a little more". See how long to beat and the complete achievements guide.
FAQ
How do you finish Totally Safe Moon Project?
Build a tower to the Moon, then carry the laser from your garage up the tower to the white flag on the Moon. Once the weapon is delivered, the ending plays, the asteroid is destroyed and you unlock the National Heroes achievement.
Do you win by touching the Moon?
No. Reaching the Moon shows a message telling you to bring the weapon there. The game only ends when the garage laser is delivered.
Do all players need to be on the Moon?
Gameplay videos show a players-on-the-Moon counter (for example three out of four) while the group arrives. The key requirement shown on screen is delivering the weapon to the flag.
Where do you get oxygen in Totally Safe Moon Project?
Once oxygen starts running out high up, Oxygen Totems unlock at the Upgrades computer. Buy them, place them on wide platforms, and stand next to one to refill.
